Sandi, giving the facts.

First off, thank you to everyone that’s been coming to Swig & Stitch and for making it the success that it is. For those not in the know, for about a few and a half years (we can’t quite remember how long we’ve been doing it now) Fabric of Vision has been putting on demos in our own special way. You swig, we stitch.

We started at Liquid Assets Wine Bar here in Ashland pairing wine tasting with sewing demos. We do all the sewing, all you have to bring along is yourself, and maybe a pen for notes. We make all kinds of projects, from wallets and bags to scarfs and maybe a coaster or two. The projects are based around techniques, so even if you don’t want to make the patterns from that night  you learn skills that can be applied to others.

With all the interest that’s been bubbling up around Swig & Stitch we’ve had a hard time finding room for everyone that wants to come. So without further adieu, we’ve added beer tasting sessions at 38 Central in Medford . We’re working with the awesome Ginger of Women Enjoying Beer to make the expansion. It looks to be a lot of fun.

All the sessions run from 7pm t0 9pm and are $20. We’re already full on a couple dates and filling up on the others. Here’s what we have available.

Thursday, December 8th @ 38 Central

Tuesday, January 17th @ 38 Central

Wednesday, January 18th @ Liquid Assets   *full with wait list*

We’ll have more dates going through to at least April soon. Check our website Fabric of Vision for more information or give us a call to sign up at 541.482.4009

Cheers!

Kaffe and Philip, a perfect solution

Philip Jacobs-Fall 2011-Japanese Chrysanthemum

I’ve never been a big fan of brown. I know that not everyone is going to agree with me on this one, but whenever fall comes around I always get a little bummed because everyone starts wearing browns. A sea of people in brown is no fun, it’s way too drab. And then Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs come around. The hues fall into a traditional fall palate but are pumped up with rich vibrant tones. A perfect way to have color in the fall.

Take a look for yourself.

See what I mean.

Though the colors are really vibrant they have rich undertones, unlike the prints you find in the summer that are clear and bright.

And if you were wondering “What do people use these for?” Well, I just so happen to be wearing a dress out of an old Philip Jacobs print. Oh yes, they are wearable.

I think I feel a tug on my heart strings

September 25th, 2011

I wish there was a way I could let you feel fabric through the internet because if there was ever a time for it, it’s now.

p1090243

We just got a shipment of a new to us Japanese fabric company and designer Ihsoyok Nijnezij, and although they did just come in and we have yet to sew anything with them we already know they are going to be incredibly versatile. Of the eight bolts we got four are lightweight cottons, one is a cotton canvas, and three are 45/55 cotton linen.

p1090202

p1090220

The cottons are positively lovely, I want to sleep in a pile of them every night. The threads are fine but tightly woven making it easy to see how they could be used in both finely tailored projects or something gathered and flowing. Oh, they would make lovely curtains too! Fluttering from the breeze of an open window…

p1090163

The canvas is just funky and fun. I see it mostly as a home dec fabric but it could also translate into a great jacket.

p1090225

I’m trying to not to over use the word fabulous here, but it is very hard not to gush. The cotton-linens have such a great hand and look to them that you could make just about about anything with them. Pant, tops, pillows, bags, just hang one your wall on look at it.

p1090213

I think the word that really should have been used here is luscious.

… and we’re back!

August 9th, 2011

Things have been a little crazy here at Fabric of Vision lately.  With summer finally settling upon us this last month has had everyone here there and everywhere. As a result my posting to the blog has been lacking, sorry, but to make up for I’m going to post a slew of some of the wonderful fabrics that have shown up in the last couple weeks. Enjoy!

Hand-dyed felted…

July 8th, 2011

(even though it isn’t quite the ideal weather to be thinking about) wools.

p1080466

These have been a standard at Fabric of Vision since the beginning and just about all have the colors have been restocked. They’re perfect for crafting projects like pincushions, stuffed animals, and wall hangings.

Amy Butler rayon, score!

July 6th, 2011

I haven’t been this excited about a fabric weight since voile started coming out. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a rayon better than these. p1080250The line is part of Amy’s Soul Blossom collection. On top of the quilting cottons that were released a few months back the line has expanded to corduroy (which we got last week), rayon, voile, and organic cotton.

p1080234

With the rising interest in crafting and clothing it has been wonderfully exciting to see the different weights in production. That’s always been one (of many) thing that’s great about the fabric industry, something new is always being made, it stays fresh.

p1080262

p1080257

It looks like it might be dress making time, the drape of the rayon is just too good not too. I’m thinking something like this….p1080404

out of this…p1080248

Because there is nothing like a good summer dress.

Amy Butler corduroys arrived

June 28th, 2011

p1080173The new Amy Butler’s weights for her Soul Blossom collection have started to arrive and the first one’s through the door are the corduroys. p1080151

The colors are super vibrant and the hand is super luscious. Even the reverse side feels wonderful.

p1080142

These are going to be perfect for jackets and all sorts of crafting projects. Just think how nice it would be to back a baby quilt in one.p1080134

p1080138Just look at how fine the cord is.p1080156

p1080165You have to come in and feel these!
